4 Legs 4 Hounds
A majority of our greyhounds looking for homes come from a partnership with the 4 Legs 4 Hounds program. Their mission is to give medical care to injured greyhounds, which includes surgery, support, rehabilitation, and recovery.
-
Team Greyhound would like to recognize and celebrate the following dedicated veterinarians who care for our 4 Legs 4 Hounds adoptees.
And the many other OSU veterinary students, residents, interns, and staff!
-
These greyhounds have retired due to a sports-related injury. The injury is stabilized at the track then they are transferred to The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center and treated further by specialists.
The recovery and follow up related to these injuries is coordinated by Team Greyhound and the 4 Legs 4 Hounds program.
-
Some of our greyhounds require injury-related checkups within the first few months.
Additionally some greyhounds will require specialized orthopedic care throughout their life. Each injury is unique and your adoption coordinator will guide you through the process.
-
Due to our greyhounds’ medical needs, some hounds may be less familiar with home environments. They may need more support and patience during their transition into your family.
Some examples of things our greyhounds may need help with include:
Administering medication(s).
Following exercise restrictions.
Learning to use the stairs (once medically ready).
Training to help reduce anxiety.
Getting them on a predictable routine.
